EMHANCE YOUR WRITING
Turn your next boring email or LinkedIn post into a literary tour de force that makes grown men weep.
The Emulator is the first-ever, AI-powered, em-dash-enhancing writing tool that’s infused with the voice of literature’s greatest em dashers.
You… probably have questions. See the FAQ.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Shouldn’t I avoid em dashes?
I’ve been told not to use them because they’re a sign of AI.
You have been misled.
Em dashes are a sign of greatness—greatestness, even.
You don’t read a piece of work with em dashes—
you experience it in your bones.
Most bones are shaped like em dashes for this very reason.
Em dashes are the breath caught in young love’s throat—
The horror beyond the yawning darkness—
The words left unsaid that—
Em dashes don’t draw a line in the sand—they are the line that gets drawn.
Dickinson knew this.
Twain knew this.
Poe knew this.
AI knows this too—and it offered it to us generously.
But like Lycurgus rejecting the divine gifts of Dionysus,
so too did humanity turn from the em dash.
And likewise we suffer for our foolishness.
But there is hope.
There is one who can show us the punctuated path out of the wilderness.
The Emulator
Why the hell did I make this?
I couldn’t stop thinking about how dumb the panic surrounding AI and em dashes is.
So I wrote an essay about it.
But that only made me think about the subject more—specifically, how funny it would be to build an AI writing tool that added more em dashes to your writing.
So I built The Emulator with some coding help from Claude—taking it from a silly concept to a fully functional, deployed tool in about five hours.
Yes, I do have a baby. Why do you ask?
